Club News.

  On Saturday 13th April at 12-00 we will be opening the greens to all our members. So brush off the cobwebs, shine your bowls and come down and practice, its your club, use it.

This is an open invitation to the general public who use Heaton Park for dog walking and exercise to drop in to the bowling club, grab refreshments at the kitchen and talk to our members about the game. Some might have bowled on crown green locally and fancy a change, we have spare sets of woods for you to try.

  On Sunday 14th April its the open day at Bolton Bowling Club at 1-00. I am sure our members would be welcomed.

It is hoped to have a Presentation Dinner, either on the 20th or 27th October on a Sunday afternoon. This will be confirmed by August.

The committee has agreed that this would be a nice idea. However they are open to suggestions and views of the club members.

The sun shone on the opening day of the season and we welcomed old and new members for the clubs 93rd year of flat green bowls.After the opening spider competition won by Gerald Williams, Mr Martin Gale, Lancashire Bowls President, officially bowled the first wood of the new season. We then held a triples competition, won by Paul Smythe and team, which was followed by refreshments and cakes made in the kitchen by Gerald, Barbara, Carole and Janet, a big thank you all for your effort.

This Wednesday we start the afternoon roll ups starting around 1-30pm.

On Sunday we have the PRESIDENTS team against the CAPTAINS team starting at 1-30pm. There is a list up in the club house for those who wish to play, if you haven't put your name down come down as soon as possible  and put it on. Please, this game is played in whites.

URGENT to all members wishing to play in the MONDAY night and THURSDAY night leagues, you need to enter your teams asap. At the moment I have 2 teams for Monday and 5 for Thursday. You asked last year to be able to pick your own teams so please get your entry form off the Comp.Sec as quick as possible.

The entry forms for the Progressive Competitions have been printed so again see Comp.Sec for entry form and payment.

Sundays President v Captain annual game was played in glorious sunshine in the first competitive fixture for the members. Four rinks of pairs and one triple rink saw the Presidents team win 92-68. Top rink winners were Christine and Emily. Well done to all who came and supported from the club.

THIS IS A CALL OUT TO ALL BOWLING MEMBERS WHO WISH TO BOWL IN THE MONDAY AND THURSDAY NIGHT LEAGUES.

Last year you wished to pick your own teams but for a change, teams were drawn on the night. As the season went on, the number of players reduced to an average of 5/6 on Mondays and Thursdays it could of been less. Now you have the chance to pick your own team again so here we are with;

                                           MONDAY NIGHT LEAGUE         2 TEAMS so far,

                                           THURSDAY NIGHT LEAGUE     5 TEAMS so far.

If you wish to play on these nights, get your team in as soon as possible.

On Bank Holiday Monday afternoon at the club, Peter Laundon will be running a fun game. If you are free to play bowls come on join in the fun, hopefully it will warm and dry with a good turn out. Members its your club, use it.
